Toronto, ON... Oils by Peruvian artist Federico del Campo donated to Goodwill Industries of Toronto, Canada sold to an overseas buyer on the telephone yesterday afternoon at Waddington’s spring sale of International Art for a combined total of $159,100.
Waddington’s June 9th auction of International Art realized a total of $860,000 indicating a strong presence in the market for rare and desired works.
Susan Robertson, Waddington’s International Art specialist, noted that the Federico del Campo paintings sold to benefit Goodwill Industries of Toronto, Canada, were “superb examples of the artist’s popular 19th Century views of Venice and that it was no surprise that International collectors abroad jockeyed bids on the phones from the US and Britain and Europe.”
19th Century Russian paintings continued to be one of the strongest Schools in this market, as determined bidders from overseas competed for the stunning oil by Russian artist Ivan Fedorovich Choultse, Alpine Sunset landscape, which realized $54,000.00.
An extremely rare album of 66 pen and ink drawings by Leonard Tsuguharu Foujita for the book: Legendes Japonaises published in 1963 in Paris, established a new auction record of $48,000.00 for illustrative works by this artist.
Traditional 19th Century British works such as Edgar Hunt’s, Feeding Time, brought an expected price beyond estimate, showing that the charming animal genre continues to be desired amoung collectors, realizing $20,400.00.
The International Art market came out in full force to support the auction, with Poland as a frontrunner vying for selected works on the phones setting strong prices for two rare works by leading Polish artists:
